Tekcham in semis

Imphal, March 7: Tekcham Polo Club (A) sailed into the semi-final, beating Manipur Police Sports Club (C) by 5-3 goals at Mapal Kangjeibung today.

Manipur Police Sports Club started off with a bang with S. Abungcha Singh hitting home the opening goal in the 1.21st minute in the first chukker. The next two chukkers drew a blank. Tekcham geared up in the second chukker with Th. Kaoba Singh getting the equaliser in the 0.36th minute and consolidated in the 2.06th minute.

Tekcham riders took a leap with M. Manihar Singh in the 6.20th minute and M. Doren Singh getting another goal in the 6.50th minute in the third chukker.

Manipur Police Sports Club made a desperate bid to return to the game in the fourth chukker.

But Tekcham rider M. Tomba Singh dashed their hopes as he struck his teamís fifth goal in 0.21st minute. The policemenís efforts paid off with S. Abungcha Singh striking two goals in the 3.55th and 4.39th minutes.

But it was not enough to save the day.

Football: Tiddim Road Unique Gamy Players Union beat FC Khanglai by a solitary goal in the opening match of the first L. Bhagyachandra Memorial Invitation Football Tournament at THAU ground.

Under-15 football: Imphal East District Football Association registered a 4-3 goal win over DSA Kakching in the 17th Inter-District under-15 Boysí Football Tournament, 2014 played at Artificial Turf, Khuman Lampak.

Seven-a-side hockey: Manipur Police Sports Club (B) bagged the third place beating SYUC by 6-1 goals in the second Y. Rashmani Memorial Menís Open seven-a-side hockey tournament at Kontha Ahallup, Imphal East.

Referees: The AIFF has appointed three referees ó H. Khamba Singh, M. Magho Singh and S. Kenedy Singh ó as match officials of I-League to be held in Calcutta this month.
