Morigaon take lead

Guwahati, March 6: Morigaon clinched a first innings lead against Bongaigaon to be in a commanding position on the third day of the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy senior inter-district plate group cricket tournament final at Barsapara Cricket Stadium here today.

Resuming the first innings at an overnight score of 271 runs for eight, Morigaon went on to put up a total of 316 runs in reply to Bongaigaon’s first innings score of 300 runs.

Overnight batsman Manashjyoti Deka went on to score 44 valuable runs off 47 balls, which included eight hits to the fence and one over the rope while Mantu Boro chipped in with 28 runs off 42 deliveries, hitting four boundaries and a six.

Guljar Washim was the pick of the Bongaigaon bowlers having hauled five wickets for 75 runs off 27.2 overs while Bidyut Nayak scalped two wickets conceding 34 runs off his nine overs. Jyoti Prasad, Amit Basfore and Fazlur Rahman picked up a wicket each.

Bongaigaon, coming in to bat in their second innings, put up 233 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 82 overs at the end of the day’s play.

Opener Gobinda Rajbongshi was the main contributor with a fine knock of 87 runs off 187 balls, which included six boundaries while Bidyut Nayak scored 34 runs off 87 deliveries with one hit to the fence. Anmol Prasad chipped in with 23 runs off 35 balls.

Offie Nipjyoti Gohain picked up three wickets conceding 53 runs in 24 overs while Deepjyoti Bora scalped two wickets for 69 runs in 22.4 overs.

Nayan Choudhuree got out off the last delivery of the day for 22 runs from 57 balls while Jitender Singh was at the crease on 21 runs off 42 deliveries at the draw of the stumps.
