Calcutta: Inspired by the presence of Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Jharkhand put up an impressive show in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, on Wednesday, as they thrashed Assam by seven wickets, at the JSCA Oval, in Ranchi.
In the process, they also became the first team from East Zone to reach the main round of the tournament. They moved to the top of the group with 10 points. Even if they lose their last match to Odisha, they will make the main round. Assam rode Dheeraj Jadhav’s 102 to post a decent total of 262. However, Jharkhand never really looked uncomfortable during their chase, overhauling the target with nine balls to spare. For the hosts, Ishank Jaggi was the top scorer with 88.
Dhoni, who is nursing a side strain, came to the ground during the Jharkhand innings and stayed on till the end.
“We didn’t expect Dhonibhai at the ground today. Our innings was only 20 overs old when he arrived. The guys got a lot of encouragementů That’s why we registered such an easy win,” Jharkhand captain Saurabh Tiwary told The Telegraph from Ranchi.
Assam 262/7 in 49 overs (D. Jadhav 102, R. Shukla 3/77). Jharkhand 264/3 in 47.3 overs (I. Jaggi 88). Jharkhand won by seven wickets
