Calcutta: With barely two weeks remaining before they begin their World T20 campaign, the India women’s team suffered a jolt when Vellaswamy Vanitha was ruled out for at least three to four weeks.
Vanitha, who got injured during Sunday’s training session at Eden Gardens, has sustained a ligament tear in her right ankle, the scan report said. The promising batswoman, therefore, will have to sit out.
The team management, though, doesn’t want to rush things and rule the 23-year-old out of the World T20 squad. They prefer leaving the matter to the BCCI and the selection committee.
“There’s a ligament tear in Vanitha’s right ankle. Normally, it takes a minimum of three to four weeks to heal.
“But we are not ruling her out of the squad because we first need to send her scan report to the BCCI, who will then consult the selectors as far as roping in a replacement is concerned. “All we can do, at present, is keep our fingers crossed,” team manager Vidya Yadav said.
