Police remand for KLO four

Jalpaiguri, March 3: Tom Adhikary and Nilambar Rajbangshi, the two KLO leaders arrested near Siliguri in connection with the Jalpaiguri blast, were remanded in 14 days’ police custody.

Two KLO linkmen, Sanjit Roy and Ramsankar Basak, were given the same remand by chief judicial magistrate Sudipta Ghosh.

Tom, who is the vice-chairman of the KLO, and Nilambar, its financial secretary, were arrested in Phansidewa near Siliguri on February 16.

Police alleged they were the masterminds behind the blast in Jalpaiguri that killed six persons on December 26.

The police during investigation also arrested Roy and Basak.

“In the chief judicial magistrate’s court in Mainaguri, the police prayed for a 14-day remand for all four. After hearing the case, the court granted the police remand,” Shanta Chatterjee, the assistant public prosecutor of Jalpaiguri, said.

Since the blast at Bajrapara, Jalpaiguri, these two top leaders of the militant outfit are the biggest catch so far.

After the blast in Jalpaiguri and firing at a passenger bus in Malda, the police formed a special operations group.

The SOG comprises experienced police personnel who have been dealing with the militant outfit’s movement across north Bengal.

According to the police, Tom was the brain in the KLO planning attacks and extortions. He used to operate from Nepal.

Nilambar was also engaged in extortion cases and used to send money to the KLO leaders in the Northeast.
