Siliguri, March 3: Two persons were arrested at Bagdogra airport today for carrying a revolver in their baggage and another man who had allegedly given them the firearm was arrested from Siliguri.
A police source said when Debinder Sundriwal and Harish Chand, residents of Delhi, gave their baggage in the x-ray counter in the airport, a firearm was detected in one of their bags. They were supposed to fly to Delhi.
“During preliminary investigation it was found that the firearm was a revolver with five chambers and was empty,” said a police officer.
Fliers are forbidden from carrying any firearm in their hand baggage. In the check-in baggage, a firearm can be kept if the owner can furnish the licence for the firearm.
“The duo told us that Manoj Sikwal, a resident of Siliguri, who is in transport business, had handed them the bag to deliver it in Delhi. We have detained the transporter who said that an army officer had given it to him,” the official said.
Jag Mohan, the commissioner of Siliguri, said: “We have arrested three persons in connection with carrying a firearm.”
