Jamshedpur, March 1: Lunch by the side of a lake awaits Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry after he flags off Founder’s Day celebrations in the city on Monday.
Tata sources have revealed that in a shift from tradition of having lunch at Director’s Bungalow on Founder’s Day, the chairman will head to Tata Steel Management Development Centre at Dimna with his wife Rohiqa Mistry, who will be visiting the steel city for the first time.
“Dimna Lake and the connecting road is being spruced up to greet the Tata chairman. The 3.5km double-lane Dimna Road has undergone a makeover, while Dimna Lake has been cleaned of waste and picnic-leftovers,” said an official.
On the other hand, Tata Steel deputy vice-president (corporate services) Sunil Bhaskaran told mediapersons today that Mistry would flag off the Founder’s Day pageantry, a major attraction for Jamshedpureans, from near Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata’s statue near Bistupur postal park at 9.30am on Monday.
“The tableaux of various associated companies, social outfits, paramilitary forces, trader bodies, educational institutions and sports clubs will be based on the theme Zimmedar Nagrik Zimmedar Shahar. The theme has been chosen to foster civic responsibility and belonging among citizens,” said Bhaskaran, adding that 2,000 people are expected to take part in the colourful procession that would start from postal park.
“Earlier in the day, the Tata Sons chairman, member of Tata Steel board of director Ishaat Hussain and vice-chairman B. Muthuraman and others will pay homage to the founder’s statue near Tata Steel main gate at 9am. Various units of the Tata conglomerate will then offer floral tributes and take out tableaus inside the plant premises,” he said, adding that the theme of the rally would be Realizing Dreams Through Responsibility.
Mistry will also attend the Founder’s day sports at Gopal Maidan involving around 800 participants from various Tata firms. Ace archer Deepika Kumari will be given the best sportsperson of the year award. The special attraction of the day will be daredevil stunts performed by Galley Stallions, a team that boasts 21 soldiers from Punjab Regiment.
Ishaat Hussain will inaugurate illuminations put up at Jubilee Park and elsewhere at 6.30pm on Sunday. The lighting will be open for public viewing till March 5.
An exhibition with J.N. Tata as its theme will be held on Sunday near Children’s Corner at Jubilee Park. B. Muthuraman will inaugurate the event.
Meanwhile, Jusco is laying special emphasis on the safety of visitors pouring in to see lighting at Jubilee Park. Seven CCTV cameras will be installed at entry and exit points.
