Antigua: Dwayne Bravo and Darren Sammy played brilliant knocks as West Indies recovered from the loss of four quick wickets and posted a fighting total of 270 in the first match of the three-match ODI series at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, here, on Friday.
Bravo finished unbeaten on 87 off 91 balls while Sammy scored 61 from 36 balls and played an equally dominant role in a stand of 116 in 10 overs.
England, who are searching for a survival mechanism at the death, were tactically bowling wide of off stump at that stage so it was imperative, rather than petulant, that Stuart Broad, captaining England in this series, sought an explanation from the umpire Marais Erasmus.
Alex Hales and Eoin Morgan were both ruled out before the start with thigh and knee injuries respectively. That paved the way for one-day debuts for Moeen Ali and Michael Lumb. Moeen has won his first senior cap for England.
