Kevin Pietersen has hit back at his former teammate Matt Prior for suggesting that the England dressing room will be a better place without him.
Prior, who was England’s vice-captain during the recent 0-5 Ashes whitewash in Australia, was asked whether the dressing room would be a better place without Pietersen following the latter’s sacking.
“Yes, it will. I think one of the biggest things the ECB wants to rediscover is the value of playing cricket for England, the honour and pride you need to show as an England cricketer.”
That provoked the inevitable range of responses, including “showing your class again Kevin... idiot” and “that will be why KP isn’t in the England set-up any more”. Again, Pietersen could not help himself, tweeting “neither is The Big Cheese Prior!” — a reference to the nickname the wicketkeeper has held, and apparently relished, in the England dressing room since his brash early days.
Pietersen hit back on Twitter by saying: “Fewer Q&As more Sussex nets methinks” — an obvious jibe at Prior who was dropped by England after the third Test in Perth in December.
Prior has already been dragged into a Twitter row with Piers Morgan, a Pietersen supporter.
