Islampur, Feb. 28: Raiganj Congress MP Deepa Das Munshi was granted bail today in connection with the blockade of NH31 and a rail roko at Kishenganj on October 11, 2011.
Bihar Rajya Sabha member Tariq Anwar, Kishenganj Congress MP Maulana Israrul Haque Kazmi and 20 other leaders of different political parties were also granted bail by the chief judicial magistrate’s court in Kishenganj today.
Thirty three leaders, including two MLAs from Bengal, were accused of blocking NH31 and holding up trains for more than 14 hours demanding the second campus of Aligarh Muslim University in Kishenganj.
The district magistrate of Kishenganj had instructed a deputy magistrate to file a case against the leaders. The station master of Kishenganj had also filed a case on behalf of the railways.
Lal Mohammed, the lawyer who moved the bail plea today, said Bengal minister of state for mass education and library services and Trinamul MLA of Islampur, Choudhury Abdul Karim, was also implicated in the case.
“Choudhury Abdul Karim did not move bail. He said he would do so at a later date. Today, chief judicial magistrate Manoj Kumar granted bail to 23 accused on a surety of Rs 5,000 each,” he said.
