Calcutta: Assam began their Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign on a winning note, defeating Tripura by 80 runs at the JSCA International Stadium Complex, in Ranchi, on Thursday.
Opting to field, Assam bundled out Tripura for 166. Abu Nechim Ahmed was the most impressive bowler for Assam, taking four wickets while Arup Das chipped in with two wickets.
For Tripura, Yogesh Takawale was the top-scorer with 49 runs. Assam got off to a steady start, scoring 148 for one in 29.3 overs before the heavens opened up.
With no play possible, the match was decided by the VJD method.
