Federer in semis

Roger Federer, in Dubai, on Thursday

Dubai: Five-time champion Roger Federer made it to the semi-final by absolutely destroying Czech Lukas Rosol here on Thursday.

Federer was on song all through the match, and never looked in any sort of trouble, winning 6-2, 6-2 in less than an hour. The Swiss hammered 21 winners, and committed just 9 unforced errors.

It was, however, a shocking start to the match. The capacity crowd in Dubai was stunned as the Czech took an early lead with a break within minutes of the start. However, dropping those two games got the Swiss to concentrate even more. He immediately got the break back, and then there was no looking back.

Federer won the next six games on the trot. to finish the set at 6-2 in just 28 minutes, committing only two unforced errors in the entire set.

The former World No.1 kept the pressure on in the second set. He faced a bit of a challenge in a tricky openign service game, but once he got through that it was all about Federer.

The Swiss got the first break of serve in the second game then added a second in the fifth to all but seal the match. Much like the first, he won the second to two too.

In other quarter-finals, third seed Tomas Berdych, also of the Czech Republic, got the better of fifth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France 6-4, 6-3.

Seventh seed German Philipp Kohlschreiber defeated Malek Jaziri of Tunisia 6-2, 6-3. The top seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia got a walkover from the sixth seed Mikhail Youzhny of Russia.
