Calcutta, Feb 25: Calcutta High Court today rejected the Central Administration Tribunal order setting aside a state government decision to promote five IPS officers to the rank of director-general.
“The government decision was legal. The petitioner officer’s (Nazrul Islam) contention that the selection committee set up by the government to promote the five police officers to DG rank is illegal was incorrect,” the division bench of Justices Asim Kumar Banerjee and Arijit Banerjee observed.
The tribunal had on February 3 set aside the government decision to promote five officers, including Bengal DG G.M.P. Reddy, after a complaint of supersession by Nazrul Islam about the manner in which they had superseded him. Islam, according to his complaint in September last year, was stuck at the rank of ADG despite having the seniority to become a director-general.
