MANISH MALHOTRA ON WHAT MAKES SIDHARTH ONE OF HIS FAVOURITE YOUNG HEROES

Six years ago, I was doing a fashion show at the Railway Museum in Delhi and that’s when I met Sidharth for the first time. His good looks and manners stood out even then. Eventually he came to Mumbai to become an actor and expressed a desire to learn direction, since it would help him act better, and so I introduced him to Karan (Johar).

Besides his height and fitness, what struck me about him was that he was a level-headed, classy, sensible, extremely well brought up and focused young boy. He left modelling soon to pursue a film career and started assisting Karan on My Name is Khan. I think Sidharth was always conscious about the fact that he was not from Mumbai or a film family. This made him only work harder.

A screen test for Student of the Year followed and obviously he looked very good in front of the camera! It was a lot of fun doing a young film with all these three new actors (Sidharth, Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt). He is one of my favourite young heroes for sure. He has done the simple boy-man character in Hasee Toh Phasee so well. And that comes with a lot of maturity and focus. Sidharth is just going to get better and better with each film.

Can bubblegum pink look so yummy on a man! (Above) That’s Sidharth in Manish Malhotra at the designer’s LFW show last year. His previous career as a model endorses the fact that he is a clotheshorse. There’s nothing that body doesn’t look fab in — muscle tee to tailored white shirt and a suit (Below).

WHY WE GIRLS ARE GOING GAGA OVER OUR NEWEST CRUSH...

Sidharth has a guy-next-door charm, is super stylish, super fit... basically a hunk!

Remember the scene in Hasee Toh Phasee where he locks Parineeti Chopra in his room only to find her skirt soaked because she couldn’t “control” a visit to the loo? Not only is it one of the most touching moments of the film, the way he hugs her and apologises makes you fall in love with him, all over again after Student of the Year. Only this time, he’s grown into a mature, caring and sensitive man.

And he’s also a one-woman man in that film. “Main kabhi break-up nahin karta,” he says, attracted to Parineeti’s Meeta but unwilling to break his fiancee Karishma’s (Adah Sharma) heart. Actually, he is the kind of guy we would want to take home to our parents and watch them being floored.

In Student of the Year, it’s his grounded Abhimanyu who ends up with the girl, not Varun Dhawan’s rich and flamboyant Rohan. And we totally support Shanaya’s (Alia Bhatt) choice (the kiss they shared in the college dorm was M.A.G.I.C.A.L.). He’s the guy we love to have a major crush on while dating our BFs!
