Furious husband kills woman

A 50-year-old driver strangulated his 42-year-old wife on Monday afternoon in Namkum after beating her.

Resident of lane No. 17 of Maulana Azad Colony in Namkum police station area, Md Sarwar, who worked as a driver in Jamshedpur, returned to his Namkum home on Sunday night.

“This afternoon, Sarwar thrashed his 42-year-old wife Baby in a closed room over unknown reasons. When she fainted, he strangulated her to death. He was about to escape when police, who arrived getting receiving information of the assault, caught him,” said a resident, refusing to be named

A policeman at Namkum thana, under which Maulana Azad Colony falls, confirmed the woman’s murder.

“Sarwar has been arrested and put in police lock-up. He has not been grilled so far as he appears tense and there is no senior officer at the police station to interrogate him. He has a poor family,” he added.

SP (city) Manoj Ratan confirmed he had got information about the crime.

“I will talk to my subordinates to gather details about the murder,” he said.

However, neighbours revealed that Sarwar, who had two sons and an equal number of daughters, often used to turn violent at home.

Apparently, a year ago, on February 16, 2013, he had assaulted his elder daughter in a similar fit of rage.

“The elder daughter died a month after she was beaten black and blue,” a locality resident alleged.
