Cops ride ahead

Imphal, Feb. 20: Manipur Police Sports Club (A) rode ahead of Nagamapal Youth Polo Club (B) by 8-2 goals in the 30th State-Level Polo Tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung today.

T. Pradeep provided the early lead for Manipur Police in the first minute but Nagamapal Youth rider Sh. Roshan fought back to come up with the equaliser in the first chukker.

In the second chukker, Manipur Police struck two more goals through T. Pradeep and I. Khaba.

Nagamapal rider N. Apollo boosted the morale of his teammates with a goal in the opening minute of the third chukker. However, their joy was shortlived as policemen M. Jawan and T. Pradeep hammered home a goal each to take a leap of 5-2 goals. The fourth chukker saw M. Jawan striking two goals while H. Abung Khuman struck one goal for the victory today.

In another match, Eastern Students Club edged out Thangmeiband Youth Polo Club (B) by 4-1 goals. N. Pravin provided the early goal for Eastern and in the second chukker, E. Robin and N. Pravin consolidated with a goal each for a three-goal lead. Thangmeiband rider M. Chaoba came up with the lone goal in the third chukker.

The final chukker saw N. Rameshwor pushing home Eastern Students Club’s final goal.

Nagamapal Youth Club galloped ahead with a 4-1 win over Nongchup Pana Sagol Kangjei Lup (B) to progress into the second round.
