Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would come out with its list of candidates for contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Bihar in another week.
While national parties are yet to finalise their list, Somnath Tripathi, AAP (Bihar-Jharkhand) in-charge, on Thursday announced that the party would release its first list of candidates on February 26 or 27. “However, it would not be a full list. So far, we have received 1,000 applications seeking tickets to contest the general elections on AAP ticket. At present, those applications are under scrutiny by the screening committee,” he added.
Somnath, the member of AAP national co-ordination campaign committee, said 30 to 35 per cent of seats would be reserved for women. “I must also say that out of 1,000, only 300 would be invited for one-on-one interaction on the basis of which candidates would be selected,” said Somnath.
The party has already launched Jhaadu Chalao Yatra from February 15 and will end on February 25, a nationwide anti-corruption drive to intensify its campaign before general elections. It has also constituted a state campaigning committee with 17 members.
AAP would field candidates for all the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar. “Till now, AAP has 17 lakh members in Bihar and the number is going up everyday. Seeing the active participation from across the state, the party has also decided to contest election on all 40 seats. Groundwork for the same has already begun as our volunteers are reaching out to even in the remotest areas,” said Somnath.
