United SC confident

Calcutta: United SC will start confidently against Mumbai FC in a Round 17 encounter of the I-League, at the Kalyani Stadium, on Wednesday.

A lot has changed at United SC since their last I-League game back in December as Dutch coach Eelco Schattorie has parted ways with the club, while star striker Ranty Martins has joined Rangdajied United FC on loan for the rest of the season.

Ananta Kumar Ghosh has replaced Schattorie as the new head coach, while Subrata Bhattacharya was appointed as the technical director. Ranty, too, has been replaced by compatriot Adekunle Waheed, who impressed in the CFL for George Telegraph.

United SC played 10 matches during the break and won four of them, including the penalty shoot-out success over East Bengal in the IFA Shield third place play-off.

They are on a six-match winless streak in the I-League and desperately need a win against Mumbai FC, who are only two points behind with a game in hand, to ensure that they don’t fall in the drop zone. Bhattacharya, who was in charge of United SC during their very first I-League campaign in 2008-09 as well, remains confident. “I think this is a good team. So, if we play to our full potential, we will finish in a strong position,” he stated.
