213-run win for England

Dubai: A 151-run fourth wicket partnership between Ed Barnard and Ben Duckett provided 1998 champions England a solid start in the U-19 World Cup as they defeated hosts United Arab Emirates by 213 runs, in Abu Dhabi, on Friday.

In the other matches of the day, the West Indies let South Africa off the hook as the two-time runners-up recovered to win by 94 runs, Sri Lanka recorded a comfortable 49 runs victory over New Zealand, while Zimbabwe completed a six-wicket victory over Canada.

In Sharjah, Sri Lanka opener and captain Kusal Mendis missed a century by nine runs and Sadeera Samarawickrama scored 67 as they defeated New Zealand by 49 runs.
