Bud club outplay Lakshmibai

Guwahati, Feb. 14: Bud Cricket Club registered a five-wicket victory over Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education in their match of the Servo 21st Guwahati Challenge Trophy All-Assam Cricket Tournament organised by River Rine Club at Judges Field here today.

In a low-scoring match, it wasn’t an easy victory for Bud Cricket Club with some of their best players not playing today. Batting first, Lakshmibai batsmen could only manage 116 runs before being bundled out in 37.4 overs. In reply, Bud Cricket Club did face some early blows but managed to steer home losing five wickets in 22.5 overs.

Jiban Barman scored 39 runs for Lakshmibai while Krishna Sut and Manoj Pathak contributed 16 and 13 runs respectively. Anup Ghosh was the pick of Bud bowlers with five wickets for 24 runs.

For Bud, Manash Das remained not out with 30 runs off 42 deliveries while Dhiraj Goswami chipped in with 26 runs off 28 balls. Abhinav Kushwaha and Mehtab Jamal bagged two wickets each for their side.

PSPB cricket: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) defeated GAIL by 20 runs in the first match of the XIX PSPB Inter Unit Veteran Cricket Tournament held at Polo ground here today.

After winning the toss, IOCL elected to bat and amassed 143 runs in 20 overs and losing seven wickets.

M.D. Kumar, who was adjudged the Man of the Match, was the topscorer with 45 runs off 44 balls. R. Joshi bagged two wickets in four overs giving away 26 runs.

In reply, GAIL scored 123 runs in 19.2 overs and losing all their wickets. R. Choudhury topscored for GAIL by hitting 33 runs off 19 balls.

Earlier, Rahul Choudhury, general manager, OIL, inaugurated the tournament.

Deepankar Bhattacharya of OIL conducted the oath-taking ceremony.

I-League: Green Valley Sports Club, Guwahati on Friday handed a solitary goal defeat to PIFA Sports Club in a group A match of the second division I-League at Railway Stadium in Dhanbad.

Pritam Ningthoujam scored the all-important goal in the 35th minute.
