2 bodies found in coal mines

Shillong, Feb. 14: Two decomposed bodies have been recovered from two coal mines while a person died after he fell into an abandoned coal pit in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district.

A complaint was lodged at Khliehriat police station today after the body of an unidentified man was recovered around 8am from a coal quarry at Soo Kilo village. According to police, another complaint was lodged on Wednesday after the decomposed body of a woman was recovered from a coal mine at Jalyiah village.

A delayed report said a miner, identified as Phising Suchiang, slipped and fell into an abandoned coal pit while he was going from Khliehriat towards Wahsiej, Rymbai around 1pm on February 1. The labourer later succumbed to his injuries.

The areas where the incidents occurred are more than 100km from here.
