Bhaichung is unhappy

New Delhi: Bhaichung Bhutia on Wednesday expressed his unhappiness over the functioning of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), saying he was yet not sure about the role and power of the different sub-committees of the parent body.

Bhutia, chairman of the AIFF technical committee, wondered whether anyone took the committees seriously. “If I remember correctly, the disciplinary committee of the AIFF met after a bunch of former Mohun Bagan players complained about non-payment of dues last season. The committee found the allegations to be true and ordered the club to pay up immediately.

“That was a couple of months ago. The footballers have not been paid yet. No one is bothered. The players are frustrated and feel the disciplinary committee has no power to address their grievances,” Bhutia said. He was talking on the sidelines of a promotional in the capital.

The ace striker, who led India in two Asian Games, sounded bitter about the role of the technical committee also. “We met once in November and gave a few suggestions. I don’t know what has happened to them. The struggle now is to have another meeting. No one knows when that may happen,” he said.
