Jugasankha,Navabarta in win mode

Hailakandi, Feb. 12: Dainik Jugasankha of Silchar and Navabarta Prasanga of Karimganj clinched facile victories in their respective matches on the inaugural day of the second Media Cricket Fest, organised by Barak Upatyaka Krira Sambadik Santha (BUKSS), at Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium in Silchar today.

Dainik Jugasankha defeated Samayik Prasanga by 34 runs in the opening match while in the second match of the day, Navabarta Prasanga beat Dainik Janakantha of Karimganj by three wickets.

Winning the toss, Jugasankha elected to bat and posted 119 losing five wickets in the stipulated 15 overs. In reply, Samayik Prasanga were restricted to 85 for eight in the 15 overs.

Anupam Roy topscored with 46 runs off 24 balls, hitting four fours and three sixes. Pritam Das remained not out on 25 from 19 balls, hitting two fours.

Ganesh Nandi of Samayik Prasanga took the scalp of two for 16 runs.

For Samayik Prasanga, Jayanta Paul remained not out on 30 from 21 balls, slamming three fours and a six. Tanoy Deb also scored 11 runs.

Binit Nath and Nilotpal Bhattacharjee shared three wickets each for four and 12 runs rpectively. Anupam Roy was named Man of the Match.

In the other match, Janakantha won the toss and elected to bat. They were restricted to 83 for eight in the 15 overs. In reply, Navabarta reached 84 for seven in 13.2 overs.

Sanjiv Choudhury scored 17 runs, hitting two boundaries for Janakantha, while 28 runs came in as extras. Suman Goswami and Ratnadeep Deb captured two wickets each, giving away seven and 16 runs respectively.

For the winners, Abhijit Bhattacharjee scored 29 runs, hitting four fours, while extras emerged the topscorer with 37, included 33 wides.

Arunava Bhattacharjee of Janakantha scalped three wickets for 12 runs. Rajiv Paul and Abhijit Ghosh picked up two wickets each, giving away 17 and 16 runs respectively.

Abhijit Bhattacharjee was named Man of the Match.

Wushu: Assam bagged seven medals, including a gold, two silver and four bronze medals, in the 22nd Senior National Wushu Championship held at Jaipur from February 6 to 10.

GTC chess: The 11th edition of the GTC Chess Grand Prix will be held at Gauhati Town Club premises here on Sunday. This is the penultimate edition for 2013-2014 year with already 10 edition played over the last 10 months.
