Sanjit Purkayet, the 20-year-old accused of masterminding the abduction of two IT professionals from jail, was also involved in kidnapping officials of deposit collection firms where he had worked as an agent, police said on Tuesday.
The police would seek custody of two other men — Rajeswar Naskar and Mudassar Nazar, who are lodged in Alipore jail along with Sanjit and had allegedly helped him carry out the abductions.
“Sanjit Purkayet has admitted to having coaxed officials of more than one money-marketing (deposit collection) firms in South 24-Parganas and abducted them,” said joint commissioner (crime) Pallab Kanti Ghosh.
Sanjit would allegedly convince his superiors that he had managed to get hold of a “rich client” ready to invest in schemes offered by the company. “He would ask his superiors to meet the prospective client at a specific location and then get them abducted,” Ghosh said.
Sanjit, lodged in jail in connection with a narcotics case, had allegedly procured a smartphone and called young IT professionals posing as a client. He would tell the professionals to visit a place near Joynagar in South 24-Parganas, from where his men would abduct them.
