Calcutta/Mumbai: Delhi Waveriders beat Uttar Pradesh Wizards 4-3 in a high-scoring Hero Hockey India League (HIL) match to extend their lead at the top of the points table, in Lucknow, on Saturday.
In another match of the day, Punjab Warriors thrashed the beleaguered Mumbai Magicians 4-1 in a lop-sided contest in Mumbai.
The Waveriders opened the scoring in the eighth minute through a field goal by Talwinder Singh before Rupinder Pal Singh (14th) converted a penalty corner six minutes later. Simon Child (19th, 20th) scored two goals in a span of two minutes.
In Mumbai, the Warriors started the match as clear favourites. SV Sunil scored the opening goal, followed by Dharamvir Singh and Affan Yousuf. Sandeep Singh converted a penalty stroke in the 26th minute to make it 4-0 for the visitors.
