Bangkim retains top position

Imphal, Feb. 7: Third seed N. Bangkim is still on top with 12 points in the E. Kunjeshwor Singh Memorial First State Level Open Chess Tournament at Lizard Community Hall in Wangkhei today.

After the fourth round, Bangkim prevailed upon N. Boboycha to gain full points. Boboycha stands with nine points.

Sharing the second spot are L. Atembi and K. Koireng, who had a drawn game today to bag one point each. Top seed Rk. Apollosana beat Shakespeare L. to be in the second spot as well. Second seed Kh. Sanjoy Singh also came up with a victory beating Ph. Surjakanta to bag nine points to enjoy the third spot.

Weightlifters: Three Assam weightlifters have been named in the Indian squad for the 21st women and 28th menís Asian Junior Weightlifting Championship to be held at Bangsaen in Chonburi province of Thailand from March 7 to 13.

Fide ratings: Rishita Sinha, Jigyashdipta Gogoi and Atlanta Mahanta of Assam have been awarded Fide ratings of 1271, 1258 and 1181 respectively by the world chess federation in its February 2014 rating list.
