New Delhi, Feb. 6: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has registered a case against Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for alleged violation of foreign exchange rules three years ago.
The 41-year-old — the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s nephew — was detained at Delhi airport in 2011 for allegedly carrying undeclared foreign currency over 10 times the limit. He was let off the next day.
“The case has been registered against Khan on the basis of investigations carried out by the directorate of revenue intelligence,” said an officer.
The alleged violations relate to the Foreign Exchange Management Act (Fema).
Khan was reportedly carrying $1.24 lakh in foreign currency and two demand drafts of $10,000 and $8,646 each — over Rs 60 lakh at current exchange rates. The sum is 13 times the limit of around Rs 4.55 lakh for foreigners at current rates.
