Shillong, Feb. 5: Militants belonging to the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) today released a coal exporter in Meghalaya’s South Garo Hills from their captivity.
Naga M. Sangma, 39, younger brother of Independent legislator Samuel M. Sangma, was released this morning in an area between Chokpot and Gasuapara bordering Bangladesh, police said.
The area is around 400km from Shillong, in the state’s western region.
On January 30, four armed GNLA rebels abducted Naga from his house in Gasuapara.
“We came to know that he has reached his house at Gasuapara early this morning. However, we do not know if ransom was paid for his release as we have not been able to interrogate him,” a police official said.
