Badrinath priest in molest net

New Delhi, Feb. 4 (PTI): The chief priest of the Badrinath shrine, Keshavan Namboodiri, has been arrested for allegedly molesting a pregnant woman in a hotel here.

According to the complaint, Namboodiri called the woman, whose father knows him, to the hotel yesterday. After initially refusing, she went there with her driver.

The priest’s associate Vishnu Prasad was present there.

“Namboodiri asked Prasad to go out and shut the door. When the woman sat on a chair, he tried to inappropriately touch her, following which she came out and reached the police station with her driver,” an officer said.

Prasad has also been arrested. The duo have been sent to 14 days’ judicial custody.

The police said the men were drunk at the time of arrest. They have been charged with wrongful confinement and outraging the modesty of a woman.

The Badrinath-Kedarnath temple committee has suspended Namboodiri.

The Uttarakhand shrine, which shut on November 18, will reopen on May 5.
