Akash lifts trophy

Hailakandi, Feb. 3: Sub-junior national champion and Indiaís representative to the 2010 Asian Games in China, Akash Nath, won the table tennis singles title in the Mega Sports Fest of Udharbond Table Tennis Club, defeating Rajiv Sarkar in the final.

In the first semi-final, Akash Nath defeated Issac Lalswamliana while in the other, Rajiv Sarkar defeated north Bengalís Subham Basak.

In the doubles, Rajiv Sarkar and Subham Basak got the better of Akash Nath and Subham Das.

In the semi-finals, the Rajiv-Subham pair defeated Lalthunlua and Jorem Pachma of Mizoram and the Akash-Subham pair defeated Mizoramís Lalswamliana and Henry Lalrinpuia.

In badminton, Samuel Lalnunmawaia of Mizoram annexed the singles title, defeating Lalmuanwama of the same state. In the semi-finals, Samuel defeated Nikhilesh Sharma of Assam and Lalmuanwama beat Jothansanga.

In the doubles, Lalmuanwama and Samuel Lalnunmawaia won the title beating the Assam tandem of Nikhilesh Sharma and Anirban Chetia. In the semi-finals, Nikhilesh and Anirban defeated Manipurís R.K.C. Singha and N. Punishiba and Lalmuanwama and Samuel beat Manipurís L. Momo Singha and Kishen Meitei.

PWD minister Ajanta Neog laid the foundation stone of the Lakhipur DSA stadium in Cachar district. The stadium will be constructed in the Pailapool Higher Secondary School ground at a cost of Rs 5 crore.

Badminton: Jagajjyoti Rajkumar of India Club won the singles title, defeating Rajdeep Chanda of his own club in the annual indoor badminton championship of Silchar DSA yesterday. In the doubles final, Rajkumar and Chanda beat Amit Saha and Joydeep Nath of United Club for the title.
