Dumka, Feb. 3: The JMM pulled off a massive rally in Dumka last night to mark its foundation day, proving that the party continues to enjoy support of tribals despite the recent Rajya Sabha fiasco.
However, the clamour with the party continues with the three disgruntled leaders — Tundi MLA Mathura Prasad Mahto, Dumri legislator Jagannath Mahto and Baharagora MLA Vidyut Baran Mahto — remaining conspicuously absent from the rally.
Also, MLAs Jaiprakash Patel and Akil Akhtar, who are upset over the party’s way of functioning, did not turn up.
While their absence apparently did not dent the party’s support base in Santhal Pargana, the proposed rally in Dhanbad tomorrow will be a litmus test for the JMM as Mathura Prasad holds a considerable clout on the Kurmi community in the coal belt.
Yesterday, the JMM used the rally platform to launch its campaign for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Seemingly overwhelmed by huge turnout, Hemant said this was a unique rally where thousands of party supporters braved the severe chill for hours to catch a glimpse of Guruji.
