NEW DELHI: Ford has unveiled the Figo Concept at its global launch here today. The move is aimed at strengthening the company’s compact car portfolio. The sub-four-metre car is expected to help Ford garner a substantial presence in the B segment, which is estimated at 2 million units annually in India by 2018. “After the success of the Figo and EcoSport, we needed to come up with another strong product, which is what we are doing with the Figo Concept,” Ford India president Nigel Harris said. He said the car was close to production and would be available within a few years. Ford Motor vice-president (engineering) Kumar Galhotra said, “With the Figo Concept, we are showing that choosing a compact sedan does not mean compromising on premium design or smart solutions.” The company expects compact car sales in India to increase to around two million units in 2018 from about a million units last year.
