Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Wizards and Jaypee Punjab Warriors finished 2-2 to register the first draw of the second edition of Hero Hockey India League (HIL) at the Dhyan Chand Stadium, on Sunday.
It was the Punjab outfit who took the lead in the sixth minute through Jake Whetton’s field goal, after he was set up by S V Sunil.
Punjab Warriors’ joy, however, was shortlived as the Wizards drew level six minutes later. David Alegre equalised for the visitors off a rebound, in the 12th minute, after Stockmann denied Luke Doerner from a penalty corner.
The Warriors surged ahead once again, when Satbir Singh (50th minute). The Wizards equalised four minutes later through S K Uthappa.
In Bhubaneswar, Delhi Waveriders prevailed over Kalinga Lancers 4-3 in a tense match with Simon Child scoring two goals on Sunday.
Rupinder Singh had given the Delhi side an early lead in the fourth minute from a penalty corner. Arjun Hallapa scored the other goal — the winner — in the 59th minute.
For Kalinga Lancers, Lucas Vila and Argentine Peillat Gonzalo were the scorers.
