New Delhi: The battle between the two top sides of Hockey India League (HIL) promised to be an exciting affair. And the contest did live up to its billing, at the Dhyan Chand Stadium, here, on Friday. In the end, Jamie Dwyer’s Punjab Warriors held their nerves and earned a 3-1 win over hosts Delhi Waveriders.
The victory was a sweet revenge for the Barry Dancer-coached side as they lost to Waveriders on their home turf at Mohali on the inaugural day.
Warriors are now on the top of the table with 16 points, while Waveriders are second with 12. Divided into four quarters, the encounter livened up during the closing stages. In the final quarter, three goals came in three minutes with Punjab proving to be a more cohesive unit.
