LGBT parade in February

Guwahati, Jan. 31: The LGBT community here will organise a pride parade on February 9 to protest against Section 377 IPC and the Sup-reme Court’s recent verdict.

This will be the first pride parade in the state.

Minakshi Bujarbaruah, a researcher and organiser of the event, said they were hopeful that 100 members from the LGBT community will turn up. The organisers have created a page on Facebook — Pride Parade-Guwahati — where more than 230 people said they were going to attend the parade. It will start at Dighalipukhuri and end at TC Fountain Point after taking the route through RBI Point, old SP office, Commissioners Point and Lamb Road.

“From 10am we will organise an hourlong protest programme, Voices Against 377, at the entrance of Dighalipukhuri against the recent verdict of the Supreme Court that criminalised homosexuality. Then, at 11am, we will organise the procession,” said Bujarbaruah.
