Silchar top group tally

Hailakandi, Jan. 30: Hosts Silchar topped the elite group D tally in the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy senior inter-district cricket championship with 16 points, followed by Biswanath Chariali with 12 points to qualify for the knockouts.

The other two teams in the group — Sivasagar and Tezpur — finished with eight and zero points respectively.

On the last day of the two-day match against Sivasagar at Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium, home side Silchar tallied three points by virtue of a first-innings lead in their third straight match.

Earlier, hosts Silchar defeated Tezpur by an innings and 45 runs in their second match. Silchar declared their first innings in 282 for 8 and in reply Tezpur bundled out in 99 and 138.

In another match, Biswanath Chariali defeated Sivasagar by 150 runs. Biswanath Chariali scored 195 and 150 for 8 (declared) and Sivasagar scored 125 and 70 runs.

In the other match of the group, Biswanath Chariali defeated Tezpur by 62 runs. Biswanath Chariali scored 153 and 200 for 8 (declared). In reply, Tezpur scored 193 and 98.
