Abhisekh enters semi-finals

Guwahati, Jan. 30: The semi-final line-up of the boys’ under-12 singles was drawn up today in the 16th India Club All-Assam Open Tennis Championship under way at India Club here.

Giantkiller Abhisekh Barua is pitted against third seed Anuranav Choudhury and unseeded Ayush J. Sarma will meet second seed Kritanta Sharma in the round of four.

On the third day, which witnessed no upsets, Abhisekh eased past Varun Kalita 4-1, 4-2, Anuranav beat Hrykpb Borah 4-0, 5-3, Ayush got the better of Anchit Gogoi 4-1, 5-4 and Kritanta overcame Abhinash Barua 4-0, 3-5, 7-3 in the quarter-finals.

Abhisekh caused the biggest upset so far in the tournament, shocking top seed Pratik Hazarika 5-4 in the first round on Tuesday.

In the boys’ under-14 singles, Ronit Bora will play Debashish Medhi and Jishnu Barua lock horns with Snehal Nayan in the semi-finals tomorrow.

In the quarter-finals played today, Ronit defeated Sadhinoor Jyoti 6-3, 6-1, Debashish made short work of Prathik Hazarika 6-0, 6-2, Jishnu came back from behind to beat Tathagat Gogoi 1-6, 6-3, 10-7 and Snehal got the better of Karan Das 7-5, 6-4.
