Adidas eye on young footballers

Shillong, Jan. 29: Adidas is keen to develop football in this part of the world.

Famous for the 1954 “Miracle of Bern” (Das Wunder von Bern), the German multinational that designs and manufactures sports clothing and accessories, is of the view that football in cricket-crazy India is only getting better.

This was made known today by Adidas India brand director Tushar Goculdas during his maiden visit to interact with members of Shillong Lajong Football Club.

Adidas has been sponsoring Shillong Lajong with jerseys and other football kits since 2009.

Goculdas also handed a piece of the Brazuca ball, which is being manufactured by Adidas for the 2014 World Cup Football in Brazil, to Shillong Lajong captain Minchol Son. “We are proud to be associated with Shillong Lajong, and the Shillong boys have been outstanding performers in the under-14 matches,” Goculdas told reporters.

He stressed on the importance of scouting talent at the grassroots through youth programmes.
