Awareness lesson as R-Day message

Patriotism went hand in hand with awareness of challenges confronting the nation at the 65th Republic Day celebrations in Jamshedpur on Sunday.

East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal hoisted the Tricolour at Gopal Maidan in Bistupur during the function organised by the district administration.

Addressing the gathering, Kaushal spoke of the need to select a good government in the forthcoming parliamentary elections.

“Lok Sabha election is the foremost priority of the district administration. It is the duty of voters to exercise their democratic rights in choosing the next government through an impartial and transparent election process. In the same way, it is the duty of elected representatives to ensure that benefits of government schemes reach people,” said Kaushal.

He added that creating employment opportunities, building houses for the homeless and securing justice for all were challenges plaguing the district administration.

Tata Steel managing director T.V. Narendran hoisted the national flag at Tata Steel Works. “The corporate and the government should join hands to usher in economic freedom. This will bring about inclusive growth. The current recession is a transition period and we should take steps to cope with it,” Narendran said, adding that the participation of masses in democratic processes was essential for good governance.

Tata Motors plant head A.B. Lall, after hoisting the Tricolour at Sumant Moolgaonkar Stadium in Telco township, spoke of the economic downturn. “Despite testing times, we have maintained a market share of 64 per cent in medium and heavy commercial vehicle segment,” he said.

He added that the company would host the country’s first truck racing contest at Buddh International Circuit, Noida, on March 23. Tata Motors will also exhibit its new range of commercial and passenger vehicles at Auto Expo 2014 in February.
