Cousin kills contractor

A contractor of Usha Martin was murdered by a gang of extortionists — led by his own cousin — near his house at Dugdha along Tata-Kandra Road in Gamharia police station area on Sunday evening.

According to victim Gora Das’s relatives, the 35-year-old was killed for refusing to pay extortion to cousin Shankar Das. The police are yet to ascertain the amount.

The incident took place around 6pm on Sunday when Gora was playing cards with his friends in the neighbourhood.

Shankar and his gang arrived at the spot and shot at Gora. The contractor despite sustaining bullet injuries ran inside a neighbour’s house. The assailants chased the victim into the house and slit his throat. Although several people were present both inside and outside the house, no one resisted the assailants.

Having murdered Gora, the trio fled on a bike.

Confirming the incident, Gamharia OC Manoj Kumar Gupta said: “Prime accused Shankar Das and his two associates are absconding. A manhunt is on.”

OC Gupta added that prima facie, the murder was carried out due to refusal to pay extortion money. “But we are yet to ascertain the sum that had been demanded from the victim,” the OC added.
