A Dum Dum resident was arrested on Sunday night for running a dud travel agency and selling fake Mansarovar and Nepal tour packages. It has been two years since he shut shop before being arrested.
Police said Samir Sanyal had fled to Nepal in 2012 and came back after running out of cash. “We were informed that Sanyal has returned, so we raided his house last night,” said a Lake police station officer on Monday, where at least three cases have been lodged against him. One of the complainants, Kasturi Pal, has alleged that Sanyal had duped her of Rs 1.6 lakh by promising to take her to Mansaorvar.
Shabrej Alam was arrested for allegedly assaulting Sudhindra Deb Manna, the additional officer-in-charge of Bowbazar police station, and constable Sushanta Das on Sunday at the Eden Hospital Road-CR Avenue crossing. Alam attacked the cops after being stopped from crossing the road before the governor’s convoy was to pass.
Robbed in zoo
Two goons robbed Neelam Saluja, a resident of Lake Town, of her gold chain worth Rs 30,000 and mobile phone at Alipore zoo on Sunday. No one has yet been arrested.
Reshma Begum died and her husband Mohammed Shadab was injured after a bus hit bike they were riding at the Dorina crossing in Esplanade on Sunday.
Girls found dead
The body of an 11-year-old girl was found with her throat slit in her house in Howrah’s Bankra on Saturday night. The girl’s father, a labourer, has lodged a complaint with Domjur police station alleging his daughter was murdered after rape. In another incident a 14-year-old girl studying in Class VIII was found dead in her Park Lane home on Monday evening.
A suicide note has been found, police said.
