No contest for the top IOA posts

New Delhi: The president of the World Squash Federation (WSF), NR Ramachandran, is all set to be elected president of the faction-ridden Indian Olympic Association (IOA), which would go to polls on February 9.

Rajiv Mehta of the Uttarakhand Olympic Association would be the new secretary while the office of treasurer has gone to Anil Khanna of All India Tennis Association. Ajit Banerjee of Bengal Olympic Association would be a part of the executive committee.

Ramachandran and Mehta were the only candidates for the two top posts, when the filing of nominations officially closed on Saturday.

The unanimous choices were possible after the two warring groups led by Abhay Chautala and Randhir Singh reached an understanding.

Ramachandran, a brother of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Narayanswamy Srinivasan, became the common candidate for the top post after the Chautala group decided to follow the Olympic Association of Asia (OCA) directive, that only a member of the IOA executive that was elected in 2008, would be eligible for the two key posts.
