Warrants against 3 in Lakhai murder

Police on Friday obtained arrest warrants against three persons for allegedly murdering JMM’s district vice-president Lakhai Hansda on Sunday night.

Doctor Tuddu, Karo Soren and Chhotu Soren, residents of Karandih whose names were also mentioned in the FIR by the victim’s wife, belong to the JMM as well.

According to police, the three, who are at large, had hurled a countrymade bomb at Lakhai at Karandih Square on Parsudih-Station Road. The JMM leader, who sustained injuries on his stomach, was rushed to Tata Main Hospital, where he died within half an hour.

“We had suspected the involvement of Doctor Tuddu in the case as he had enmity with Lakhai over government-owned land at Ghaghidih village. We got almost sure when we recovered an SUV from a jungle in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha the next day. But we didn’t want to reveal much before as we wanted to find out the names of the other assailants,” officer-in-charge of Parsudih police station Dayanand Kumar.

After identifying the killers, Kumar said, a police team left for Odisha to hunt out the three. “But we could not trace them and hence, decided to obtain arrest warrants from the court of chief judicial magistrate. We will soon file an application for property attachment if the accused fail to surrender,” said the officer-in-charge.

A senior police officer revealed that a team had been again sent to Odisha to track down the murderers. “Raids are also going on in the trio’s Jamshedpur homes,” he said.
