Calcutta: United SC coach Eelco Schattorie has decided to return home plunging the club, already crippled by financial worries, into further crisis.
“I am going home on a holiday and am undecided on my future… Nothing has changed at the club in terms of their inability to rope in a sponsor… I had an open discussion with the club officials a couple of days ago…
“I will speak to my family and then decide whether to return or not,” the Dutch coach said on Thursday.
Though Schattorie didn’t spell it out in as many words, it was learnt that he has told club officials that he is unlikely to return. The coach has often openly spoken about the club’s financial woes which hasn’t been to the officials’ liking. However, a senior club official didn’t wish to comment on Schattorie’s decision.
It was also learnt that United SC are still undecided on their practice schedule for the IFA Shield which begins on January 29.
Meanwhile, East Bengal will begin their practice on Friday under assistant coach Ranjan Chowdhury. Coach Armando Colaco is expected to join practice on Saturday.
