Legal heat on bail petition guarantors

The district police have decided to tighten the noose around guarantors of bail petitions of criminals.

Guarantors of bail bonds may be booked under sections 226 and 120B of the IPC if the criminals out on bail are found indulging in criminal activities.

The bail of the criminals, too, would be cancelled.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Saurav Kumar said the police headquarters had directed that steps be initiated to nail the guarantors besides the criminals indulging in crime after being released on bail from jail.

The SSP said the Town, Sadar, Ahiyapur and Mithanpura police stations have put forth proposals for cancellation of bail bonds of 16 criminals. The criminals were released on bail in November and December, 2013.

“The investigating officers of the cases have been directed to collect details of the guarantors of the criminals’ bails from the district court and recommend action against them under sections 226 and 120B of the IPC.

“Action against the guarantors can discourage the criminals from indulging in crime,” said the SSP.

The proposal for cancellation of bail of 16 criminals would be sent to the public prosecutor of the district court.

“The investigating officers have made proposals on the basis of concrete evidence collected by them and subsequent lodging of fresh FIRs in criminal cases,” said the SSP.

He added that he had further asked police officers to verify the credentials of guarantors of the bail bonds of criminals.
