Guwahati, Jan. 19: Navajyoti Club thrashed Ankurjyoti Club by 163 runs in a match of the 12th Jugal Kishore Newatia Bud Challenge Cricket Tournament at Nehru Stadium here today.
Opting to bat, Navajyoti went on to pile up a mammoth 279 runs for four wickets in their stipulated 40 overs. Parag Das topscored with 77 runs while Sibsankar Roy contributed 74 runs. Raju Kalita picked up two wickets while Riyan Parag got one.
In reply, Ankurjyoti could only manage 116 before being bundled out in 20.3 overs. Raju Kalita scored 46 runs while Erik Roy contributed 24 runs. Bikash Chetri and Nipon Deka picked up three wickets each. Parag Das was adjudged Man of the Match. In tomorrow’s match, Navarang Club will play River Rine Club.
Maharana triumph: Maharana Athletic Club beat hosts Gauhati Town Club Senior by seven wickets to annex the Ramesh Barooah Trophy Invitation Cricket Tournament title at Judges Field here today.
In a low-scoring final, the Maharana bowlers bundled out the hosts for a paltry 72 runs in 21.1 overs. Nitin Das topscored with 37 runs.
In reply, Maharana batsmen reached the target in 9.3 overs losing three wickets.
Diptesh Saha scored an unbeaten 36, while Pritam Debnath chipped in with 15 runs. Pacer Abu Nechim Ahmed picked up two wickets for 10 runs.
