Woman succumbs to burns

Ranchi, Jan. 18: A 19-year-old woman, who was admitted to Apollo hospital on January 3 with around 70 per cent burns after her in-laws allegedly attempted to kill her, succumbed to her injuries this morning.

Doctors declared Reshma Parveen dead around 6am.

Ormanjhi officer-in-charge R.S. Patel said her husband Asfaque Ansari (24), a resident of Irba, had already been arrested and sent to jail on the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim. But, her father-in-law, mother-in-law and sister-in-law, who are also named accused in the FIR, are still at large.

Parveen, also a resident of Irba, married Asfaque in August 2012 after two-year courtship. But Asfaqueís parents did not approve of the marriage. Under family pressure, he started living in Jamshedpur and sent her divorce papers. On January 3, Praveen saw him in the locality and went to his house, where she was allegedly set on fire.

But, police are still not sure if she was set on fire by the in-laws or they just abetted her to commit suicide.
