Tinsukia Railway triumph

Guwahati, Jan. 16: Tinsukia Railway registered a thumping 93-run victory over hosts Gauhati Town Club Junior in the last league match of the Ramesh Barooah Trophy Invitation Cricket Tournament at Judges Field here today.

Batting first, Tinsukia Railway piled up 270 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated 40 overs.

Opener Bijan Dutta topscored with 59 runs off 66 balls while Bimal Goswami chipped in with 40 runs off 42 deliveries. Arnav Choudhury was the other notable contributor with a quick 32 runs off 21 balls. Vicky Barman bagged three wickets conceding 32 runs in seven overs while Kongkon Barman picked up two wickets going for 42 runs in eight overs. Rohan Dutta took one wicket giving away 48 runs in eight overs.

In reply, GTC batsmen could only manage 177 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their regular overs.

Opener Zibran Das scored 47 runs off 92 deliveries while Vicky Barman and Govinda Rajbongshi contributed 27 and 21 runs respectively.

Salim Ahmed picked up three wickets conceding 16 runs in eight overs while Rajat Khan and Javed Khan scalped one wicket each.

City Cricket Club will face Maharana Athletic Club in the first semi-final tomorrow.

Paddler selected: State paddler Soneswar Deka has been named in the Indian contingent for the 17th World Veteran Table Tennis Championship to be organised by Table Tennis New Zealand in Auckland from May 12 to 17. He had earlier represented India twice in the world veteran meet in China and Sweden.

Badminton meet: Mangaldoi Club will organise the Bidya Medhi and Jibon Deka Prizemoney Open Badminton Championship from January 29 at Gopinath Bordoloi indoor stadium in Mangaldoi.

Netball meet: The Assam Netball Association will organise the ninth Junior Hiteswar Saikia, Keshab Chandra Dhekial Phukan Youth and ninth Haren Baruah Senior Inter-District Netball Championships at Doomdooma in Tinsukia from January 31 to February 2.
