Steel city retains title

Jamshedpur Sporting Association (JSA) retained the state soccer title by handing out a 2-0 defeat to Ranchi in the final held in Hazaribagh on Sunday evening.

Right from the first whistle, the steel city boys dominated the match with quick and accurate passes and seamless co-ordination.

The first half, however, did not yield goals as the players from the capital put up a strong defence against the Jamshedpur boys.

JSA boys struck first blood when Ramesh Kujur scored in the 58th minute on the other side of the breather.

Rupa Purty punched the final nail in Ranchi’s coffin by hitting the second goal in the 70th minute.

Kujur was adjudged best player of the tournament organised by Hazaribagh District Football Association.

“It was a great performance from the boys. We have always maintained a firm grip over the championship and this year was no different,” said Ramesh Mehta, chairman of JSA’s football committee.
