Hockey Union emerge on top

Imphal, Jan. 12: Hockey Union thrashed Charangpat Development Organisation by 3-1 goals to claim the championís title of the first under-14 Boys Herojit Waribam Gold Cup Hockey Tournament at Khuman Lampak practice field today.

Hockey Union dominated the proceedings but wasted too many opportunities. However, they got theirs act right in the 11th minute through A. Suresh Sharmaís field goal.

Sharma consolidated in the 14th minute for a 2-0 goal lead.

The team stepped up its offensive and W. Neerajkumar fetched his teamís third goal in the 31st minute.

Charangpat Development Organisation managed to salvage their reputation through a lone goal from Th. Akendro Singh in the 43rd minute but it was too late to save the day.

Apart from the top title, Hockey Union walked away with three individual awards.

A. Suresh Sharma was named Best Forward, while W. Neerajkumar was named Best Midfielder and Most Promising Player.

All-Jiribam Sports Association was adjudged Most Promising Team and its goalkeeper Y. Shyamson Meitei was awarded the Best Goalkeeper title.
